Canvas Your suit will have a fused canvas unless you are choosing half or full canvas. Extra charges apply for half or full canvas. What is the CANVAS in a suit? The canvas is an inner layer helping in your suit's shape, its comfort and durability. It will also give your suit the shape you are most after. More you will be wearing your canvassed suit, better it will feel comfortable. A good canvas will adapt itself to your body shape. What does HALF CANVAS mean? It means that your suit's got a sewn canvas (not glued) on its upper part only. What does FULL CANVAS mean? Obviously it means that the whole suit has a sewn canvas. What does FUSED CANVAS mean? Fused means that glue has been used to stick your suit fabric to the inner layer. What does a FLOATING CANVAS mean? It's a canvas consisting of two layers of cloth into which horsehair has been woven, which are then sewn together to create a curving of the finished canvas. A floating canvas should be delicately hand stitched to the jacket and the inner lining. The best canvasses are made of camel hair or horse hair. Can also be found in goat hair. Today, many suit manufacturers use cotton blend or synthetic canvasses: Rayon, Viscose... to lower their costs.
